Events: Braderie Lille 2006

Each year, on the first weekend of September, 2 millions visitors throng the streets of Lille for the annual "Braderie" street fair.

What is the "Braderie" ?
Professional tradesmen set up shop on the street and the citizens of Lille sale or exchange their unwanted possessions. They are settled on 100 km of pavements throughout Lille selling paintings, antiques, ornaments, furniture, books, records, and junk of every description.
Part of the celebrations is eating moules-frites - mussels and chips, with a pinte of beer. Traditionally, after eating your mussels you leave your empty shells outside the stall of restaurant and there is a competition to see which one amasses the biggest heap by the end of the fair.

How to come to Lille ?
From England, Netherlands or Belgium, you can get a train (Eurostar&Thalys) to go to Lille (Lille Europe station) or fly towards the closest Airport (Lille Lesquin). From England, you can also take the Channel shuttle with your car, towards Calais (100km from Lille).
Public transportation in Lille :
If you come by the car, you can park around the city (free carparks) and go to the downtown by tram, bus or underground.
1 "two days" ticket (valid on saturday and sunday) : € 4,60 ("Pass'Braderie")
1 "one day" ticket (valid on saturday or sunday) : € 3,50 ("Pass'journée")
10 single tickets : € 10,20

Lifestyle: The Mustache Summer Tour

Even if we didn't see any mustachioed german players during the last world cup soccer, the 'Stache could be back this year! In NYC, the film-maker Jason Della Valle tries to reverse the course of men's grooming. He wants to make the mustache hip again by making a documentary about mustache in modern American culture: the Glorius Mustache Challenge. In USA, Europe, everywhere, some trendsetters adopte the 'Stache and organize some famous parties called "Mustache Soirée", "Rock The Stache!" or "La StachMou, ça claque!"
Is it gonna be a mainstream? Wait and see...
